Moisturiser
So if any girls are worried about rough skin, you can take over my lousy moisturizer. Useless piece of crap.
Don't tell me its all in my head. Who wants to volunteer for an experiment.

V A N E S S A
I fainted from a wisdom tooth operation 2yrs ago. I ended up at the hospital in the middle of the night, only to find out that I didn't faint cos I lost too much blood, but because I was frightened. $300 gone!
Earlier this year when I had to abstract 4 teeth, I cried =/ cos it hurt so bad after the anaesthesia wore out.. =(
And i'm afraid of anyth that crawls. Yuck. I even have to ask my little sis to help me catch the beetle or spider or ask my dog to kill e cockroach if not i wouldn't dare to go into the room/toilet.
I've embarrased myself countless times by jumping suddenly cos I thought it was a cockroach, when it was actually a LEAF on the ground. >1
2.I used to be a tomboy.
I play soccer with my bro. and in pri sch, when e girls are playing five stones, I would play catching with the boys during recess time and before sch.
I got into trouble a lot in sch. I had to go to the principal's office no less than 5 times. Maybe its cos i'm so gullible and silly =( in P1, I saw my friend drawing on another guy's shirt with blue crayons. And he persuaded me to join in! so I took a green crayon and started drawing and I can't remem the details but e guy's mom complained and the principal said I had to bring e shirt home to wash cos there were more GREEN than BLUE marks on the shirt =(
In P3, a friend told me to spray insecticide into the pond (to kill the toads or someth like tt) and I in the end I was brought to the principals office and almost got CANED. He let me off cos I was a girl.
In p5, my friends were really playful and didn't like this chi teacher, so they put chalk and threw rubbish into her handbag. And once again they persuaded me to throw someth into her bag. And before I knew it, I was in the principals office again.
In Secondary sch i had to see the HOD cos i had too many demerit points (alws late for sch). and she said "vanessa, are you eating? you're SHRINKING!"
3. i'm always late for sch
When I was in JC, I was always late for sch, well cos I lived so near, i thought I didn't have to wake up so early. So I was always running to sch and climbing over the fence so I didn't have to do detention. And there was once, my shirt got caught in the fence, and TORE when I jumped. That prob piqued my interest for climbing =P
oh and btw I got like 2nd place for inter-house rock climbing whoaa hehe =P
(edit:out of the 8 who took part, 5 of them didn't even get pass the start tile..)
4. I have 1..2..3.. 4.. 5.. 6.. 7! Piercings.
So ah lian right? 3 on each ear and a navel piercing which I removed, cos I didn't have time to let it heal.
5. I touched a CONDOM.
I was at MOX this Gay bar at Chinatown area I think. We went there during Arts camp. I was going down the stairs when I saw this Zen-looking balloon, and I was so amused I went to pick it up. it was OILY I only realised what it was when I saw the opening, I hope its not used one! yikes!

sorry i took so long! busy la =P
i tag CYNTHIA & SHAUN :)
worries
At the same time, i feel slightly worried (especially for the guys, several of whom have asked me how to increase strength... halt right there, wrong focus!!)
As a novice climber, most important is good technique as it will bring you the fastest improvement in the long term. Overcoming routes by strength bring momentary pleasure but 'zero' gain. Strength training could also potentially lead to injuries if you hop too fast onto the campus board without supervision (pls don't). Injuries will make you very frustrated like our unlucky captain.
The impt qn is how to improve technique? As long as you are willing to learn it will happen - Look at other ppl climb (and then copy like Kakashi), ask others to spot what you are doing wrong, ask others how to do it right, visualise yourself doing it and think think think how different body positions will affect you, what technique is appropriate, experiment!

Here's something that was ripped off the site http://www.exploreclimbing.com/
Climbing Tips
Move your centre of gravity towards a hold instead of reaching for it. Push instead of pull. As with yoga, when climbing be mindful and focus on the learning rather than the outcome.
Bring your attention to your breathing when climbing. We often hold our breath during crux moves or when we are gripped which creates muscle tension. Muscles need oxygen to replenish their energy state. Your intention should be to breath smoothly and evenly throughout the climb. Exhale as you perform each move and inhale before you reach for the next.
The opposite of force is feeling. Focus on letting go and not controlling. Instead of forcing see if you can feel what is blocking progress (e.g. fear/ tension/ holding breath). As you exhale imagine that your are drawing out the fear or tension.
When the mind goes to where we think the body should be, instead of where it is, we lose our awareness of the moment.
Practise focusing on your feet when climbing. Be precise with where you place your foot. Look at where you have placed your foot before committing. Make sure that your centre of gravity is over your foot. Only place as much of the shoe as you need. Think of a mantra such as 'sticky rubber' and apply it to your footwork. Your feet will stick like glue after practise.
I know it all sound a little zen-nish but it sort of sums up what I've been trying to make the jrs practice, perhaps more clearly. Do try to keep them in mind =] No matter what style of climbing u may have, I think these little pointers will still help.

having fun.
i always look forward to every saturday training, cos it's stress-free with a very laidback atmosphere anywhere we go.TP,SP,yishun safra,CA have real fun stuff, and definitely more fresh air.
whether we are humping potatoes, doing sick dynos or crimping on barely-there tiles, there's always plenty of crazy things to say and laugh at.especially when you humped a potato, got off the wall and watched another person hump it.try it at level 2 CA.satisfaction guaranteed.haha.
and we seriously should do something together other than climbing.like go window shopping or watch a movie or just chill out somewhere other than hawker centres.maybe this will come after the dreaded exams, or the weekend of climbaprix.yixiang and vanessa, you guys better not disappoint!i'm waiting for some good old-fashioned non-physical fun.
and last monday, when i said climbing is the best part of school, i ain't kidding. 4 days a week isn't enough, but my fingers can't take that much. and my nose hairs are overworked from all the filtering it has to do in the gym apart from working the haze.
2 more weeks to climbaprix, juniors, no stress ah, go there and have fun. during isolation maybe we can have some chick-spotting together.don't have to psyche till you lose your desires.haha.
let's play together till the sun sets on us.then play some more.

5 boring things about edwin.
1) ok. not sure if you guys know this..i have been caned by the principal when i was primary 3. haHA. Reason : i played soccer on the basketball court the day after the principal said we were not allowed to do so. SHIT. actually i managed to escape getting caught. but those who got caught mentioned my name. so the principal was annoucing thru the PA system for EDWIN YONG. i cried after the 5 strokes. haHaa
2) hMm.... another thing about me. HAIRSTYLE. i am quite obsessed with short neat hair. those army kind of short. i cut my hair around once every 3 weeks. coz i hate it when it gets all messy aNd long. i used to have ARMANI hairstyle in pri sch. all GEL-ed up and stuff. =) when i was in secondary sch i had the ah beng kind of center partin hairstyle. not very nice becoz my hair wasnt that straight. yeah. what else. oh in Jc my hair was quite short. there was once me and my climbing team cut botak together. haaHah. yeah. then there you have it, my current hairstyle. i am currently trying to allow the hair at the back to grow slightly longer so i Can style it! any comments for me guys???
3) quite boring so far right? next thing about me is that i got drunk once. only once. it was quite bad becoz i was out with my army men. i was the only officer there. so i kena arrowed. made me drink and drink and drink and drink and drink. ok then i jus dropped dead flat. i was dragged out of the club and i remembered myself saying " i am ok. dun worry! i am really not drunk! I JUS CANNOT MOVE MY BODY!" but nobody believed me. haHa. guess thats what you will claim when you get drunk. ok. it wasnt exactly a nice experience with all the puking and hangover and stuff. well.. at least i got the experience.
4)ok! if you guys haven realised, i am quite crappy and talk alot. so PleASe pleASe... pardon me. yeah. ok here are a few signs of my mood. so please take note.
- when i start talking alot of crap and start to sing like what i did on monday- it means that i am feeling very bored and feeling aimless and kind of down. so please cheer me up and play along with me ok?
- when i am not talking- it means that i am very unhappy and pissed off. so... please stay away.
i am quite nice la actually. don't you guys think so? easy going.nice to talk to. easy to crap with right? haHAah. hMm... seriously. SERIOUSLY. i am not hostile and DAO, so talk to ME!
5)ok. lastly abit of me when i was in JC. i WAS the captain of the climbing team. i was competitive and i demand alot from my team. hAHa. kind of like Hilter la. yeah. but everyone was happy becoz we all have the climbing spirit. that was what kept us going together as a team. i treasure that team of mine alot, going thru allof tough times and fun times. yixiang was in the team as well. can ask him how much fun we had. climbing the wall without ropes. climbing during recess and every break, den going back to class sweating and having chalky hands! hAHa. So to my present TeaM, let the passion for climbing keep us together aS a team yeah! it will jus something hard to describe when we get to that stage. so till then.
ok. tts all about me. i cant do stunts like jackie and i cant have tattoos like Pyang. what do you expect? i have a DISLOCATED shoulder. =) now i shall tag...................................CLARA!!!!!

cinq choses que vous ne savez sur moi
1. honestly i didnt think that i would be a rock climber... cuz in JC i was cock sure that i would be joining bowling as a CCA since i learnt the techniques during sec 4 after my 'O' levels... so after i put my name down on the paper at the bowling booth i went with my 2 frens to see other CCAs.. they tot rock-climbing was fun so they went and gave it a try.. i was sitting there like an idiot watching them when someone from the team, a fellow marist like me asked me to give it a go... was kinda reluctant at first but then i decided to give it a shot... and after 3 climbs including one on the overhang, which i completed (with the belayer giving me assist lol) i signed up with them and that was it!! i have never regretted my decision and never will...
2. i was hospitalised during J2 because of something stupid i did... at the time i was a break dancer wannabe so i was always trying "stunts" in my room... happened that i saw this video in which this pro breaker was recommending some exercises to strengthen the upper body.. one of the exercises was to do vertical pushups with your legs leaning against the wall for support.. so i tried a few and then gave up and went back to study not thinking too much about it... a few days later i was in my classroom having a break when i had this "seizure" where i felt weak in the right side of my body... and i couldnt keep my balance... it lasted for a while before it disappeared... it happened again that day and many times 2 days later... so i went to SGH where i was admitted to the stroke ward cuz i was a "stroke query".. during my stay i went for MRI blood test, urine test, ENT (ear nose throat), ECG(brain wave) tests.. and all came out normal... after 5 days they discharged me... hospital bill? $2500.. i then went to a chinese sinseh who said that i probably twitched a nerve in my neck which results in the "seizures".. so he "rearranged" my neck and whats inside... and true enough i didnt encounter any seizures since then... how much did i spend there? $70.. WTF!!! anyway the money is not the point... the point is, before doing any exercises please STRETCH!!!!
3. i know a lot of u think or say that i look like jackie chan.. well u guys are not the first... since young (about 9?) to when i was in secondary sch as well as in JC, people have already said that i look like jackie chan... haha and he is not the only person that i seem to share an uncanny resemblence with.. people also used to call me robbie fowler... in both cases, i reckon its the nose... lol
4. like pengyang, i am a non-smoker but i confessed that i had a few puffs before... not more than 10 though!!! most of it was from clubbing when i was really super ultra high on alcohol and just needed something to relax a bit so i took my fren's stick... but that was it!! i am still considered a non-smoker k!!! lol to smokers out there!!! remember "SMOKING CURES CANCER!!"
5. i seriously seriously cant think of a 5th point... anybody care to help me out??
i will publish the 5th point when i think of one... meanwhile i tag EDWIN!!!

-->Try going to youtube and search for "chu kai wai" for your krabi routes' beta
Lots of interesting routes like hang ten, baby gorilla (my 2 next projects..im so lucky!), Hee Youn Kang On Chicken - 8b+ (super!), tantrum (8a+) (super!), Old Chicken Makes A Good Soup (8a+). He is really strong and from the way he climbed tidal wave in his video, me and weimin can tell that he onsighted it. (Since we are really familiar with it from trying it so many times, sobz)

a tip?
Hmm, sounds slightly dubious since I've always thought moisturiser will make your skin softer but well worth a try cos i'm running out of skin!!
~~
Been doing PT involving 11kg of weights in a backpack recently, trying 3 exercises:
1. deadhanging on the smallest crimp on our campusrungs, 8s
->trains static finger strength
2. Laddering
->Contact strength and Recruitment
3. Toes hooking around the straps of the backpack, try to raise your legs as high as possible and locking on jug for 10s. (NEW)
->Body Tension/locking. I find this exercise very strenous!
~~
Can't seem to find my small container of gigabyte chalk..did anyone see it in the gym? It has gr8 significance to me! (and im out of chalk) :(

5 things you don't know about.....jensen
- I am a freak-accident magnet.yes, it is rather obvious from how i can sprain my finger from an innocent game of captain's ball.back in 2002 when i was in canoeing, just 6 weeks before the inter-school competition,i had a freak accident that killed off any chance of me representing the school.i capsized,on my my way swimming back to shore,i kicked a rock.the next thing i know, there was a huge whole on my ankle, and the blood was flowing like it's free.yeah,so couldn't walk for a month and was kinda depressed.so everyone, please take care, or don't stay near me.
- Am sandwiched between 2 sisters.one's 24 and going to become a police officer(she's crazy!can't run for nuts how to catch thieves?!?) the young one is 18 and a poly student who's more interested in playing the guitar than her studies. in between them is a 22 year-old ape.
- The reason why i'm in engineering now is very simple.i was caught in a dilemma,to choose engine or bizad.to quicken the decision-making process,i flipped a coin.so here i am.(this is true ok...and i don't recommend anyone to tikam their lives like i did.regret sia...)
- i like to bake.brownies, cookies, cheesecakes, trying to venture into cakes.if i had the courage and the money,i'd be in shatec now and off to france for baking school.and it's still my goal to open a bakeshop, regardless of who the baker will be.who wants to invest?
- what got me into climbing wasn't real climbing. in 2003, i was watching the X-games when the speedclimbing segment was showing.this rookie thrashed the former champion in the women's category.i was like "what the f**?gotta try this someday."and the first thing i did when i got to NUS (didn't have time during army) was to get the level 1 course.and it all started from there.
that's it! anything else you want to know about me,just ask.
i'm not sure which juniors know about this blog, but i'll tag JACKIE CHAN, mr chen yixiang.Rob-B-Hood rocks!!!

Climbing Politics by Siu Hang
This article relates the frustration of being a climber during climbing. This article directly involves us too, and it is useful to have people to tell us how we are acting during climbing, as more often than not, we fail to step back once a while to take a good look at things.
http://chillycraps.blogspot.com/2006/09/climbing-politics.html
"are easily identifiable by their team-spirited attire and can always be seenIt is called climbing etiquette by the way. Let us all try to be the best loved climbers in the whole universe muahaha.

Read
Athletes tend to be highly competitive, high achieving, and self disciplined individuals who go to great lengths to excel in their sports. This personality type combined with the expectations of team mates and coaches as well as the spectators may make them at a higher risk of developing an eating disorder than the average person. Athletes that compete in sports that emphasize either appearance or require speed, lightness, agility and quickness are at higher risk for developing an eating disorder than are non-athletes or athletes in sports that require muscle mass and bulk.
Eating disorders are most common in athletes that participate in the following sports:
- ballet and other dance
- figure skating
- gymnastics
- running
- swimming
- rowing
- horse racing
- wrestling
Both men and women are susceptible to eating disorders, although a greater percent of eating disorders are found in women, possibly due to the social pressures to be thin.
The three most common eating disorders found in athletes are anorexia, bulimia, and compulsive exercise.
The real threat to an athlete with an eating disorder is the extreme stress placed upon the body. The very practice of self starvation, purging or obsessive exercise has a detrimental effect on performance. The binge-purge process results in loss of fluid and low potassium levels, which can cause extreme weakness, as well as dangerous and sometimes lethal heart rhythms.
Women athletes with eating disorders often fit into the so-called The Female Athlete Triad which is disordered eating, osteoporosis and loss of menses or amenorrhea. Many athletes mistakenly think they're not at risk for osteoporosis because they exercise, and exercise is known to strengthen bones. Research shows that exercise alone does not prevent bone loss. Irreversible bone loss starts within six months to two years of the loss of menses. Another negative consequence of eating disorders is the close association to depression.
Identifying athletes with an eating disorder is not easy. They are often secretive or blame their eating and exercise regimen on their training goals. More patients are identified by perceptive coaches or team mates, friends or family members who notice an athlete losing weight, purposelessly exercising outside their training regimen or becoming overly preoccupied with food and weight.
Warning Signs of an Eating Disorder:
- Preoccupation with food and weight
- Repeatedly expressed concerns about being fat
- Increasing criticism of one's body
- Frequent eating alone
- Use of laxatives
- Trips to the bathroom during or following meals
- Continuous drinking of diet soda or water
- Compulsive, excessive exercise
- Complaining of always being cold
Eating disorders in an athlete are serious and can become life threatening if left untreated. Identifying the type of eating disorder is essential to get the right help. The following pages provide more specific information about anorexia, bulimia, and compulsive exercise in athletes.

my lab partner asked me not to sigh on sunday as there are only 52 sundays in a year -.-
Completely ridiculous anthropic principle (CRAP):
"At the instant the Omega Point is reached, life will have gained control of all matter and forces not only in a single universe, but in all universes whose existence is logically possible; life will have spread into all spatial regions in all universes which could logically exist, and will have stored an infinite amount of information, including all bits of knowledge which it is logically possible to know. And this is the end." (Barrow and Tipler 1986: 677)
Found and taken off wikipedia. Go read about anthropic principle to find out more, or just watch the 'Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya,' the anime series. I am also impressed by the series hurhur.

Heyz,
This would be a series of introduction (for the jrs and whoever that dont already know) to a few climbing websites. Would be good to visit them to pick up some tricks and tips for improvement or just to watch some videos and be inspired!
No. 1 on the fav charts is the Petzl videos, nicely edited n beautifu videos. But selection is limited n new videos take eons to come out (if ever)

A manual on climbing training which u can download in pdf format. Useful knowledge on the different aspects of climbing and maybe could tailor some of the training suggestions for own improvement. Good place to start. If you dont understand any of the terms mentioned in the document you can ask any of the seniors ya?

Climb On! '06

Its a good experience for all, so don't be worried if you didn't do well this time, there's still a long way ahead and much more to learn as well.
Learnt a lot as the registration I/C for climb on (cos SOMEONE backed out then I somehow got roped in). Was a battlefield at the registration counter, at 8am, 11am and when tabulating the results cos the real time updating system had some screw ups....programming-wise as well as the people keying in the results; but its a start - probably next year they're gonna refine the system of both score keeping and registration.
Plus the thing I know I've definitely learnt is: (Coach pls take note) I'm not gonna do registration in future - too taxing for my feeble brain - stressed sia. Gotta find someone more capable to do it.
Looking at my score ah...like so far away from the rest....weak sial. gotta train harder after my fingers recover. glad to see the rest doing so well too...

climb -on
The routes were great and plentiful, the wireless updating via PDAs very impressive(I want to learn!), Kiat was a good DJ and the atmosphere quite bustling and energetic. It was also nice (especially nice for someone..[pai!!:D]) seeing foreign climbers coming from Thai, m'sia to take part leaving me in awe at their strength O.O
The only problems were the queues and how some route judges didnt follow the prescribed sequence of allowing ppl to climb.

From the photo contribution of Junjie (not Kiat), we have some of the photos of the enjoyable climbing experience (minus the waiting) that is Climb On! For all that were not able to make it, here's what you've missed. Do share more photos!

Hope everyone had fun =] Though climbing wise was crap for me but was still a good experience being able to try sooo many different style of routes at one time. Here's a thank you to the organizers (and helpers... haha...) of Climb On! Next year pple!
P.S. Who won all treats?

Addition:
Below is Weimin's Tidal wave redpoint...Dunno why but many people aim to complete this route. After this video, i realised that it was lacking music so proceeded on to make the other two. But i am now lazy to edit it. Takes a lot of time ok! most of it just waiting for my laptop to do the video processing.

A pointless (but good) afternoon read :)
Some might think it a fool's errand to sum up the measure of a Singaporean. They'd be right. Asking a question like what makes the average Singaporean is like asking what the best drink in the house is. If our citizenry is a bar, it ranges from the ubiquitous beer to free-wheeling mojitos and margaritas to respectable vintage wines. But there are a few endearing traits that most Singaporeans can lay claim to, or at least recognise in their fellow men, wherever we might be. To wit, five endearing Singapore traits that , what can we say, we're most proud to call our own!
1. We are softies deep down
Proof of how congenial we are? No matter how crowded a hawker centre is, we still acknowledge that you have reserved a seat just because you've plonked a packet of tissue paper or an umbrella on it. Funny, isn't it? When there's nothing to stop us from stealing the tissue and the seat, and use it to wipe our mouths later (the tissue, not the seat).
2. We speak funny
Let"s face it, we do. And it"s adorable. Wrong, but adorable. Who else refers to someone who hams it up as having more "patterns than badminton"? (pattern zui gor badminton), or uses "see me not up" to refer to not getting enough R-E-S-P-E-C-T? Singapore is a mish-mesh of Hokkien, Malay, Hindi, Mandarin, English so well blended into everyday use sometimes we are confused about the etymology of a phrase. The rest of the world doesn't understand us, but we get each other, like we have a special code. And nowhere do you feel more grateful for this than when you are all alone in a foreign country and suddenly hear good ol' Singlish being spoken. Nothing else makes you feel more at home.
3. We're practical to a fault
Our men don't propose marriage; they ask if you want to buy a flat together. Flowers that wilt? How about a value-for-money meal at Tiong Bahru market? We eschew romanticism for pragmatism and initially, that might be hard to swallow. What's important to keep in mind is that he's nots pending money on perishables or worthless things. The next time your boyfriend gifts you with a key-chain, remember: it's not only the thought that counts, your boyfriend is also counting his pennies so that both of you have a financially secure future. ?<-- HORRORS (but that's just me)
4. We are competitive in a good way
We want to win, and win in an open and above-board manner. We have titles like "Best Airport", "Busiest Port", "World's Most Global City" under our belt. Singapore has also been rated as the least-corrupt country in Asia. And the best thing about us? We freely share how we did it. The US has even adopted our educational method for teaching Maths since Singaporean kids out-performed American kids in the subject.
5. We live on hope and a prayer
So there's no way in this lifetime we are going to earn a million dollars by hard work. We'd do the next best thing and bet on 4D and Toto every week. Nothing wrong with a little hoping that Lady Luck will smile our way and send us enough moolah to buy the convertible and penthouse we've always dreamed about. And with two glitzy IRs, coming our way, our odds at The Good Life are that much improved, wouldn't you say?

Rant
I hate monday trainings. With a few more hours to the draconian training, life is at the pits. Argh. Imagine the sick running that we got to do. Plus it's a few kilometers run under the hot and humid weather of singapore argh what a pain. During the run, your legs get so hot from the inside. Your mind urges you to turn back but there is a monster behind you, pacing you. Head begins to spin, you start imagining things.
All the fumes from the evening rush hour rushes into your head. No wonder I find it so hard to think cough cough pollution siah! Then after the run, all the sweat breaks loose. Splatter here there all over. The smell of the jus-returned-runners stink up the gym. Oh yeah some idiot decide to lay on the mattress with all his sweat on it argh. Sweat + chalk + dirt = The orange mattress woohoo
Then there is the system training. Pull pull push push lift lift. Muscles si beh sore from climbing the uphill slope towards engine fac now must torture my body more. After all those stuff, it's 9.30pm! Too shacked out to climb, climb also not full power climb. Sien chi-pua argh
I dread Mondays! :(

Equipment all over

There will be equipment all over the gym from saturday 26th aug to tuesday 29th aug. This is due to the team cleaning equipment that was from Krabi..ropes will be dangling on the flat walls and slings will be dried on the second floor.
Please do keep a look out for shady characters who might steal some stuff hur..and please do not step or play with the dangling ropes as it's wet and dangerous and slippery.
Thanks!

New Product!!!
Super Loco **Available September 1 2006**

Description:
We cant stop innovating....so don’t even ask. The Loco was our flagship high performance shoe and a darn good one at that, but it wasn’t good enough for the mad scientists. With a completely new last, this down turned toe ultra performer is better on edges, better on toe hooks and better on heel hooks. Not to be outdone in the looks department we welded functional rubber flames on the side to help out with those extreme inside foot smears. The triple strap enclosure system was jealous so they got flames as well. With a shoe of this caliber we know your gonna fit them tight so we added a thin padded lining and a neoprene tongue. That with our seamless binding tape around the ankle makes it tight fitting yet not overly painful.
Availability: Not available until September 1st 2006
Price: US$ 109.95
Recommended Shoe:
5.10 V10s

The V10 is the highest performance slipper on the market. Built on the same last as the Dragon, the V10 has a powerful down-turned toe that allows you to pull with your feet like a mad ape. The V10 is designed for super steep and overhanging rock or powerful bouldering, pocketed stone, where you find yourself not just pushing with your feet, but also pulling with them. Super sticky Stealth HF rubber is an additional advantage.
Designer: Charles Cole, Sang LeeConcept: Downturned toe for overhanging boulders and routes.Development: Five Ten created the first down-turned toe shoe, the UFO, more than a decade ago. For the first time, climbers were able to pull with their toe, giving them more power in overhanging situations. This is Five Ten's most sophisticated down-turned last, with Stealth HF rubber for ultimate friction under low loads. Additional Information: The current version has rubber on the toe for advanced toe hooking.
[this post is built on personal views. Pls kindly add ur own recommended shoes. How abt a top ten best climbing shoes?]

tips?
It's not nice to admit you have a weakness and it feels much better to ignore it. But put aside your ego cos that's going to hinder your improvement. Find out what is your weakness by comparing yourself to your peers and also by asking around.
Eg. TC mentioned that he is very bad at endurance sets, can't even do 6C but he hates to do endurance sets/ARC. Maybe there is some flaw hidden within that he has not found out? ie. overgripping, bad rest posture, inefficient technique? Bouldering more would not solve this problem ..
2. Have specific training regimes/targets in mind.
Ok, so you realise that your weakness is lack of endurance - Or finger strength - or technique problems. Whichever the case, you need to be clear and focused on how to achieve your goals.
Eg. You have weak crimp strength. Make sure that you do fingerboard once a week and campus board once a week without fail - no excuses. Have both fingerboard and campus board sessions fully planned out.
TC could make sure he does 30min of ARC before he starts each climbing session and end ea session with 3 endurance sets. And focus on not over-gripping, good technique, resting on the wall etc.
3. Learn from others
It's easy to dismiss other people's ideas/trg methods but maybe their way works for them and it could work for you too! Experiment and find out. Read books, surf the net for more training information, watch videos and focus on their technique.
Eg. I always thought climbing with weights was dumb. Turns out that I was the dumb one cos everyone who trained with weights become so strong :P
4. Variety is the spice of life.
Climbing in the same place with the same people is comforting but it also results in stagnation. Go out sometimes and find different people to climb with, everyone is friendly! The routes/tiles could be very different and unique.
hmm that's all i can think about, almost all of it has some personal resonance that is why i mentioned it. sorry i used teckie for an example cos the conversation in the car is still v fresh in my memory :)
Maybe more people can mention what works for them....the junior seniors also ;)

Appeal
Si Beh Sien from Training in NUS?

Feeling si beh sien from training in a packed gym? What about feeling like you sien chi-pua (sien halfway) when stronger climbers own you in routes? Do you feel that you need some distraction from the sardine packed orgy in the gym? Do you feel angry when you gotto keep reminding people to move when you are on the crux of the route? Are you frustrated and tu-lan when they didnt listen and you gotto come down before injuring someone?! Do you feel that the gym is getting more and more packed and you cant climb much??!! Are you furious that people are cutting your queue in climbing and you cannot say much as they only realise that when they made the first move???!!!?!?!? Do you feel really sien, tu-lan, bo-sim (bored, angry, no spirit) when other people pawn you in flash comps???!?!?!?!?!?~!@#$%^&*
Look further! Come sometime soon (timing is in accordance to adrian's timing), you all may get a free toy to play in nus! Thanks to the team funding, we might be able to get this toy haha. The planning is underway already hoho no promises but I figured it is better to give you an idea of what may come rather than seeing you all contemplating the best way to avoid the crowd in NUS gym as there is no way to do that haha unless it's on a sunday.
Be assured that I also want this toy, thus the probability of it materializing is higher hoho. At least it gives you something to do while the gym is busy getting packed up.
This friendly advertisement is advertised by me, thus it may be fake or it may be real. Adrian is a mysterious man, so depends on how you interpret my lies so as to discover the truth of my words.

NEW SHOES

Frankly it was wasnt on my 'Want to buy shoe list' initially. But fate has it... as with so many things in recent days (strangely), I bought the ANASAZI instead of the GALILEO, which somehow fell to dear san and fen. Haha. Strange twist of fate.
SO... we have now an addition to the ANASAZI family in the NUS climbing team (right honey? haha) and an expansion of the FIVE TEN group with the introduction of the GALILEOs. Woo Hoo. Not only that, they are lined with the NEW ONYX rubber. Haha.
We bought them some freaking size smaller... fits well but a little tight. ok.. not only a little. They're TIGHT. Thinking of changing bigger... see first... BUT yeah... new shoes... yummy.
KraBi KraBi
Kudos to the Krabi Gang for making this trip an amazingly memorable one. Kesheng our water delivery man, Daniel our laundry guy, Adrian the Lost Boy while Kum doubled as a portfolio photographer. Not forgetting the girls for contributing smiles and laughter!
Climbing was fantastic! Think I'm definitely a natural rock climbing devotee now. It's so much more freedom, expression and at times (hopefully) satisfaction! Jai Dum is definitely an inspiration. Seeing that guy complete Jai Dum is a motivation. Sweet.

Keep on Climbing peepz! Let's all go back there someday and send all the routes!

Adrian's Krabi post 1
1. What I learnt
I learnt lotsa stuff. How to better take care of my equipment, how to wear fisherman pants, how to shit with my harness on, how to trek with a Fanta and a pack of biscuits in my hands..err how to improve onsight skills and how to redpoint Jai Dum hurhurhur. I saw someone finished Jai Dum! He dispensed a couple of tips to me too. More elaboration soon. I really learnt something new everyday at Krabi.
2. Routes
I sticked with grades of 6c+ and below. Only the occasional two 7a broke the monotony. I do feel a little sien doing 6a, 6b and 6c as the routes were developing a similar pattern. Perhaps I did not explore enough routes but I feel that the 7a that I did possessed something that the routes do not have. They have a great variety of moves, the route forces my body to generate new climbing moves on the rocks. Syok. Tested my onsight skills. Tsahhh!
Even routes like Lion King feels the same to me (frankly) as I was a little bored getting pumped and doing underclings most of the way. I love (hot women) and a variety of moves such as crimps, jugs, high steps, cracks and bouldery sections in a route. The most fun route that I did was 'Gimme a Break 7a' at Wee's Present Wall. Some idiot thought the route was a 6B thus we eventually tried the route. The idiot is N**g F**g. Muahaha hello honey.
But I will still stick to routes of grades around 6c until I've decided that I am ready to explore harder routes..probably get a feel of how 6Cs are like. Do not rush improvement, a fat one once told me.
3. Tidal Dum
This is my new project..finish Tidal Wave before I hit year 3 and finish Jai Dum after I hit year 4. Try lah. Do you know how inspiring to see that guy finish Jai Dum? I was like..omgknnbbqpie expressway. He was so happy and he really worked hard for it. At that moment, I saw myself there muahaha. Fame glory power. Roar.
4. Food
Fish is good. I ate lotsa fish there as chicken is beginning to bore me. But I had a good relation with a drumstick selling aunty haha she gave me discount for a piece of drumstick and free chicken wing muahaha. Secretly bought the discount pack while the rest of the girls were doing their project oh yeah Chang beer is good too but I did not drink that much as I am not a drinker *hic*
5. Company
Got lotsa things to say about them ah! Wah piang fun leh go Krabi with them realised that my batch are equally as bad as me muahaha steam. Will elaborate with pictures once i get the pictures to refresh my memory. But I must say that they do take good care of equipment and they generally have a good sense of safety.
6. To be continued
Must go bidding and plan my uni life now. Realised that I cannot do Industrial Attachment as my semesters are super busy zzzzz...

krabi
Me, weimin and liu li sitting in an internet cafe now bidding for modules whilst the rest were smarter and had already done their advance biddings and planning. The internet cafe here is really expensive. :(
Weimin, jiasheng and I just did quarks 7b today after a day spent resting cos of the terrible rain. liu li is close and can complete it on top rope. The forced rest day could be a blessing in disguise?
Me and jiasheng also did orange tears 7A and Lion King 6C+ on our first day. We are all hoping to do deep water soloing soon. See u guys in 2 weeks!

work and climbing
1. Comparingg work and school
Unparalleled freedom and time vs money and ambition. They're two totally seperate currencies but im a lazy bum so i'll much prefer my time thank you. Plus at work you have a boss but in school you're your own boss!
2. Work and climbing.
Some people say that they have no time to climb but i think that's not true. There is always time to climb and it is just how well you integrate it into your timetable - and what you are willing to sacrifice for it.
Despite saying that, i still have to admit that work does not correlate well with climbing at all :(. The problem is, work makes u tired and being tired = not feeling like climbing.
3. Work and traffic
It sucks that 99% of the working population go to work(and home) at the same time. Singapore roads get really crowded during the peak hour and its really shitty taking twice the normal travelling time...when you most can't afford it.
Anyway to cap off a really tiring 3mths is a really shiok 2 week krabi trip! I wonder how the junior team is faring in krabi, no news from them..

yeah!!! hurray!!!
feelings of a newly-crowned dino..(which kelly had kindly reminded me today. i m no longer in the team)
LOST!
lots of feelings of LOST!
suddenly.. u dunno wat u want out of ur life.. and start a search of wat u realli want..
and when u find it.. most prob..u discover that.. it has nothing to do with wat u study..
so to those who are still studying ..
cherish all the time u have in school..
play, climb to the max. but still muz somehow study a' lil..
and to those in krabi and those gg soon..
have lots of fun!! bring back lots of stories.. of joy, peace and laughter..

Gym cleanup
It was very fast, efficient and thorough!
Some things to take note of now that the gym is clean, of course it's up to everyone to follow or not just some of my thoughts:
1. Don't use loose chalk, always use a chalk ball
2. Don't carry chalk bag when doing short boulder problems, when you fall, there's going to be a big PUFFF
3. Don't climb barefoot, going to make all the tiles dirty and moist
anything anyone else can think of?

SPORTS CAMP
Sports Camp will be happening from 3rd July (Monday) onwards. It's a time when freshmen from the university get together for 4 days of solid sporting fun. This includes a demo and tryout sessoin on Tuesday 4th July for all land and indoor sports -- that includes us. This is an excellent time for us to showcase our talents to these freshies and get their attention for the sport, from promoting level 1 courses to promoting the IVP team. We'll just need to set up ropes and harnesses for the newbies to try out the sport, and also plan a stylo bouldering route that we can 'wow' the girls with ; )
We'll need helpers (belayers) and demonstrators (handsome and daring climbers *ahem*) for this demo from 8 to 1 pm. I believe that lunch will be provided too.
Capts and Mgrs, could you help rally the team members for this event? I understand that it's on rather short notice, but I think there was some lapse in the earlier communications efforts.
