Perlis teaser

Before we get the pro shots from Daryl, here are two of mine. No comment for this one:

And this is the, um, 8c+ (the guys can tell you all about it).

NUS ROCTRIP 08

In KL Pondok Lodge at 7.50am on a lazy Monday morning. Here's an update for those who missed out on the trip.
Perlis climbing was pretty interesting. Gua Kelam was bee-infested and some of the guys who went up got stung numerous times. I think Claudia got some too. The routes weren't that interesting, and loose rock was common.
Bukit Keteri was a different story. Less insects (still a lot of mosquitoes and sandflies), long routes that are quite fun and beautiful cave structures to explore, coupled with a balls-in-your-mouth hike up to the Belly Button cave. The Keteri Ultimate route was a 7a+ called Kerengati or something. Quite a few of the guys managed to finish it. A juggy 8 metre start, a very sharp and crimpy 5 move boulder crux, then a easy finish on jugs again. Most of the guys tried the 8c+ which David Lama and Cedric Lachat did on their Mammut trip. We left a mulien (or however you spell it) up there.
Ipoh was a breath of fresh air, with zero trekking and cleaner belay spots. Fuzzy Lama gave the most problems, not with the climbing, but finding the right anchor points. And projecting La Sculpture, a 7c+ boulder route which we did on toprope was fun and inspiring. Natural bouldering rocks la.
I don't know how the professional climbers climb for so many days straight. I'm aching like mad all over, bitten infinite times with my legs all scarred badly from scratching in the middle of the night, and the mind can be so tired that I don't feel like putting a rope to myself. But the company was most enjoyable, with like-minded teammates with light sabres and the endless singing on the bus.
Photos from Daryl will come soon when we're back. We've got thousands of them.

OMGLAZERGUNSPEWPEW!!!!!!

From left to right: Kenneth, Lucy, HH, Bert, Dor.

Pengyang decided to change his name to Lucy(his char name). So now Lee Pengyang is known as Lucy Lee Pengyang, the imba (imbalanced) KS-er. (KS= Kill Steal)

Bert is the Main Tank(soaks up the damages.. yea SOAKS! like a SPONGE!)
Kenneth and Henghong are the water elemental summoners. click click gogo!
And Doris is Bomb Girl. Pewpewdiudiu!

AFTER chionging night cycling and kboxing and climbing @ smu ... WE ARE TIRED .. and so we played computer games..

after 2.5 HOURS(no kidding) of insane button smashing and mouse clicking...

Finger Strength increased!!! [insert Level UP music] and we completed the game! w00t!

Anyway the origins of this post stems from Warcraft 3, this old school computer game. We played this map called X Heroes Siege which happens to be old school as well. In this map/game, we are supposed to kill monsters and defend this castle from swarms and swarms of constantly respawning monsters. In order to level up characters, the player must buy tomes to increase strength and agility and whatever stats there are. That's the gist of the game.
And since this is predominantly a climbing blog, this post can be related to climbing! Oh yes. The game has taught has determination and perseverance- staring your eyeballs out for 2.5 hours watching py I mean lucy do KSes is sheer determination! We all start out the same(= weak), but it's your character which will see you through till the end, and that's when we end up different.
For example, py had picked lucy, the strongest and most imbalanced character in the game. That's why he had the ability to succeed in life I mean in the game and KS so well.
Just like climbing. Train hard, have the right character, and all will turn out good for you in the end. :)
Be strong. Buy tome. There are some things money can buy. There are also some things money can't. Climb more.

Night Cycling Afterthoughts

This is my very first post over here! Hoping for an immediate recovery from thigh aches (hopefully more muscular aye) & butt soreness 'cos I think I look funny walking around now. A bit of twitch and jerky movements here and there. Haha! Terribly fun and stomach-challenging night we had (except the sandflies which seemed especially attracted to me). Got to know some of you guys better and personal weird antics. :D

I just wish that next time probably, somebody will invent bikes with ring floats or cushion padded seats. And in the first place why were bike seats shaped this way?

Floats like this have been proven to be therapeutic for many.

It's time to love your buttocks for they are the ones who are always there to support you!

Waiting for the photos to be loaded up!

This post is dedicated to zhao xiu

And in the same spirit, here's a funny pic of myself.

Sunday, December 7

captions and relevant descriptives are below pictures

Sunday- Standard Chartered Marathon 2008. Yours truely decided to go down and be a runspirator (had a couple of friends running in it and thought it would be nice to support them). I've never experienced a marathon before, be it as a supporter or a runner- today was an unforgettable experience. For one, I got to witness the unfailable human spirit- the determination, the will to push on, the support, the grit and the strength in completing 42.195km. Sounds so cliched hor the human spirit, but... it's something which is really indescribable. I was in secretly in awe of everyone- the logistics, the runspirators, the tentages, the music, the everything- the entire time I was holding a pathetic placard saying "Allez" and waiting for a familiar climber face.

At the 25km mark at east coast. Got there a bit too late- had intended to reach by 0830 but wound up reaching at 0850. Was zzzzzzzzzz because I knew I had missed claud already by that point of time. Waited for about 30 min, but had my two chao turtle odac guy friends for company who had happily pangsehed me and cycled to east coast instead of walking around with me, but that's irrelevant to this blog so err moving along hahaha. Saw no familiar climbing face here, but only my odac friends.
Cher mummy! Caught her at city hall mrt station actually- she was on the 'down' escalator and I was on the 'up' escalator- yelled for her and she responded with a huh hi huh? face. She called me 1 min later to say that I had caught her stoning hahahaha! She was there to accompany and support a friend (or is it friends?) who was/were running 10km. See that's us with my Allez placard. This pic shows us at the finishinglineareatentagesandmuddy field. Was feeling a bit zzzz to be alone so I hunted her down just to look at a familiar friendly face! This is our WE WERE HERE picture hahaha!
Sidenote: I joined my church friends shortly after cher and I parted. So I wasn't alone. :)
Alright first up of the climber runners we have claudia and marian! They came in below 5 hours. Had to holler CLAUDIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! to get her attention. So sweet huh this pic. :) BTW Cher had waited from the 3+ hour mark to the 4+ hour mark but didn't catch them so she was like "i didn't see claudia!" with a slightly panicky tone but yeshhhhhhhhh they finished in below 5 hours (correct me if I am wrong k claud)! They were running too fast for the first picture hahaha.
And she had to yell in my face in an attempt to scare me outside Spinelli's hours after the race- she had hushed my friends silently while I was engrossed with SMSing (inability to multitask even with a simple activity called walking tsk). Thanks claud I love you too but you failed to scare me because you have done it to me so many times! <3
Team NUS- the runners were waving flags at the last stretch. Didn't know whether to laugh or cheer. But yes I chose to cheer. I was cheering randomly throughout my wait in order to break the monotony. Kinda like bouldering comps and climbing carnivals, one cheers for random people.
I was still in awe at this point of time- I saw all sorts all people finishing the race. I really mean all sorts. You got the balloon carriers, the parents, the old men, the really white-haired old men, the old women, the really white-haired old women, the limping people, the people with scrunched-up faces of pain, the school kids, the pram pushers, the teenagers, the couples, the really tall people (I saw this human giraffe), the really fat people (I saw this human rhino), the nerds, the geeks, the everyone really. Just didn't catch the kenyans. I heard from my friend that they were freaking woaaaaaaaaah (for the lack of a better descriptive). They run in a black pack and they run damn fast- when my friend entered east coast, the pack had left east coast and the east coast stretch is a couple of freaking kilometres yo. I am still in awe (who wouldn't be! 2+ hours for 42.195km thats inanely insane!)
They had the Kids' Dash events as well for 3 different age groups. Ultimate cuteness seriously to see little tots run like speedy gonzales! SO CUTE.
JUDITH! Runner siaaaaaaaaaaa.
Human spirit at play- a couple and their baby running together. Sweetness. And damn strong la.
Balloon Lady ran full marathon. Yes the white tag confirms it. AMAZING LA. Just. Awestruck.
Look more kids in the kids dash!

Yixiang and Edwin! By this time I was frying in the sun (thank god it wasn't that sunny...but yet there's UV rays la) and stoning and zoning out already. Yixiang had to yell DORISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS to get my attention.

Oh, did I mention that the pictures posted here are in CHRNOLOGICAL order? :D Hehehe. Do the inference hor.

This guy's carrying a buncha balloons which say WILL YOU MARRY ME? I don't know what's the verdict cos I was rooted to my spot looking for familiar faces, but erm ladies will you agree to marry such a guy? Open for discussion. As for me... I don't know la too young to think about marriage hahaha. Forever young I wanna be forever young.

LOOK SUPER SMALL SUPER CUTE! -melts- It's kinda wow to see parents running with their kids in the kids dash. Showcases the positive side of the human spirit.

So sweet they came to look for me after their run hahahaha. :) EDWIN PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOUR KNEE.

Signing off. Hope this post livens this place up a bit more. We should type more in addition to posting videos! Like add in more afterthoughts. Because it's only words, and words are all I have, to take your heart away (guess the song, awww).
