POST BOULDERACTIVE 2007

If there's to be only one word to described how i feel abt Boulder '07, i guess that word would be 'Proud'.

Proud of the successful completion of Boulder '07 for both the CLUB & TEAM
Proud of the medal haul of NUS Climbing Team in Boulder '07
Proud of the improvement which all the climbers have shown
Most importantly, proud of the way everyone gave their support and encouragement to each other
The list goes on...

While my own performance wasnt up to standard (i promise i'll train harder to gain that little more edge!), the strong display by the other climbers gave me comfort n confidence that the team is walking (climbing) down (up) the right path. NUS is slowly establishing itself as a strong competitor in this sport we love, with more of our climbers entering the Open category. Slowly, but surely, NUS Climbing will grow from strength to strength and maybe one day, we'll take the novice women category, the only category eluding us still.

For the benefit of those we have no idea still of the competition honours (fantastic list):
Novice Men
1st - John
2nd - Jensen

Intermediate Women
2nd - Charlene
3rd - Claudia

Intermediate Men
1st - Kesheng
2nd - Chrisster

Open Women
3rd - Kelly (Finally not 4th anymore!)

Little shout-out here to the rest, GREAT JOB nonetheless. If things didnt go as planned, no worries ya? Most imptly is you gave ur best! Stay positive, take the lessons n move on =] Dont feel disheartened, dont give up, have a little faith, have a little grit. Give yourself a pat on the back dude n dudettes. Rockmaster here we come!

Apologies for the strange sounding post; wanted to type something more but sleep is affecting my brain. Maybe the 11/2 hr wait for donut factory donuts have something to do with this too (not worth the wait peepz, dont try, the wait i mean). Before i suffer from complete brain failure, peepz pls try to upload ALL ur photos ya? Would be nice THANKS!

ZZzz...

Woohoo!
NUS kicked some serious ass!
Congrats to all prize winners for realising their wants, all the training has paid off. To all those who fell short of their expectations, let's work hard together! I bet we all had fun competing and helping out. The past week was spent carrying mattresses, carrying tiles, making trips on the lorry to and fro school, screwing and unscrewing around and climbing up scaffolding brushing tiles (i'm an expert at this already...). Tiring yet enjoyable, strange enough.

Of course, must thank our trainers June Kiat and Yap for taking time off to come and tahan our nonsense. And Jups, for being part of the nonsense.

Come to think about it, the pre-event and post-event was more fun than the actual competition itself. You see our crazy girls making a fool of themselves in public (like Nita piggy-backing Charlene around PS), the guys totally glued to the men's open routes and absolutely gobsmacked by the screw-on routes, Peng Yang embarrassing himself in front of the crowd at wall 4. Here's some pics I took before and after the competition, evidence of weird behaviour of the NUS climbing team.

So after Boulderactive 2007,

Urgh. I've got a class now, but I overslept argh!!111one. Anyway this is the after boulderactive post that centers mostly for the gym.

Yesterday (and this early morning), a couple of strong and eligible and mostly edible guys were carrying stuff like mattresses back into the gym. Most of the tiles and miscellaneous items like timers are at the back of the gym already. We wrapped up the mattresses with the orange groundsheet and stacked the SP mattresses on top of it.

The problem comes here. Firstly, there is little space to climb now and SP mattresses will be with us for at least a week >.<

Secondly..well well how do I go about secondly. Like what Kesheng said..well..it rained for a couple of days during boulderactive. So mattresses sucked in the water and the water stays there. We know this as the water squirted their juice on us when we were lugging them back into the gym.

What's more! They smell like dead rats! After stacking into the gym, fuh! There is this trail of water flowing from the mattresses. We placed a well thought of irrigation plan to guide the water out of the gym which consists of a few rags so do not remove the rags! With the gym stinking up, it is without doubt the worse smelling gym in Singapore.

I've asked the club to plan for a gym cleanup and lots of stuff needs to be done to rectify the smell. Mattresses must be stripped, cleaned and perhaps the tiles washed. I know we are all damn shacked from the experience, as everyone did a good job and stayed back late. But we cannot possibly climb in a gym that smells worse than our arses eh? (unless you got a secret agenda with arses hooo~~~) So wait for the club to designate a day to wrap up the mess, and in the meantime we shall drop by the gym to see how bad the smell is hurhur.

The orange mattress is the worse lah. The mattress was exposed and soaked in rainwater during boulderactive and we conveniently took them and put them back into place. None of the guys dared to sit on the orange mattress yesterday.

fingerboard

I very seldom do fingerboard cos I'm always drawn to the campus board. Hence I'm not too sure about static exercises.

Anyway with just one rung (door-frame) can anyone recommend any exercise for me to do?

I'm pretty bored just hanging and doing pull-ups on it.

Update 1

Took some pictures of the gym being stripped of tiles yesterday, but laptop hanged and they flew away with the wind. Gym's totally bare now, less for some wooden blocks and screw-in crimps.

After a 2hour climb with Jen, Ed, PY, we headed back to sch to start moved ,the mattresses, tables, chairs and people. Managed to finish it by 6pm. Think they should be moving the SP mattress by now. Both day's stuff were done quite quickly as we had enough people and Kesheng was his usual self, thus hastening the speed and efficiency.

The lorry this year is better than the last. Dun think it'll break down. But it has a faulty speedometer, an out-of-date handbrake, and lousy engine. The aircon is acceptable, but the engine noise just drown out the radio. Wonder who will do an Initial L this time round. We have a couple of good careful and safe drivers around - Ed, YJ, etc.

Wall's painted in a nice red and brown color (pictures soon to be here). But the wall's this year is large, or feels large and intimidating, at least to me. Hope my guts wouldn't shrink when i get to it. The spot's the same as last year's, which is good for transportation of logistic stuff.

Thanks to Cherlyn and Claudia and whoever's there who's stayin overnight to look after the precious walls and tiles. Novice routesetting had been brought forward to tonight as the wall's completed earlier than expected. This year's work seems to move smoothly, hope the smooth-ness continues all the way!

One More Week!!!

Good luck people. Show all you have and most importantly, enjoy the event.

Suddenly

Suddenly!

I got this great spasm *shake shake shake shake* and I have the urge to warn everyone that Jiasheng is a nipple pincher!

When I innocently and cutely and unassumingly walk into the tsunami area with my orange flavored ribena (does the ribena jump now hooo~~~), Jiasheng came and pinch my nipple! It was no ordinary pinch, he grabbed it and twisted it argh. As you all know, nipples have lotsa nerves in it, so the pain is so painful.

Remember those times when you are bouldering, you reach for a tile, and your neh-neh scrubs against a tile? Super painful right? The friction treatens to tear off your sanity. Same lah.

All those guys..beware! People with great chests and always going about naked will only further tempt that neh-neh twister (hoo~~~) to act on thee..Edwin, Yixiang, Liuli, Caleb, Kesheng, Rong Hui, Peng Yang, Jensen, You Jie, Ning Feng, John, Matthew, Charles; please do guard yourself.

Jiasheng, I dare you to pinch the most elusive nehneh in NUS climb team..the Jups neh! Muahaha.

Haha.

B(ie)active and Work

Boulderactive is just round the corner. (exactly 9 more days) And I'm bloody excited for so many reasons: its my 1st open comp; you get to see so many gd climbers attempting so many gd routes at one time; you get to see pretty gals who can climb well; you see huge crowds comin over to wonder wat the heck you're doing on four walls; you get to see helpers scurrying like little cute mice to chalk/scrub the tiles; your mouth gets sore after blowing the whistle for the 101th time, you feel so gd when the event ends and everyone gathers for photos......

The committee's confirm havin a hard time organising it. Its the case every year, no matter how zai the comm is, cos b-active is such a chore to organize. So if possible, the team members should try to give your utmost support physically. (Dat's wat the past few wks of PT is for -- to carry mattresses like how KS does.)

Drink loads of H2O, stay safe, injury-free. And remember to finish all your essays, assignments, studyin for test before B-active, cos after it, you'll be stoning for a week, before you recover from all the post boulderactive withdrawal symptoms!

throbbing

I am getting this wierd throbbing in my left upperarm. It's not painful at all but it' like when I am idle and sitting down doing nothing, I can see my muscles twitching uncontrollably. It almost feels like a seperate heartbeat.

Has anyone experienced this before? Anyone knows what it is? I am a bit freaked out. It is happening quite often

boulder is coming!

Hello all, my first entry to this blog in 2007 hehe... i hope everyone is looking forward to "BOULDERACTIVE" like i always do. I won't be joining this year but still, will play a part by being a helper & cheer team for you guys. (*if my shoulder can recover, i will be a route setter too keke....)

Competitions, i'm always looking forward to it. I enjoy the 3 or 4 minutes that i have, to plan & complete my route if possible. For that 4 minutes, that wall is only mine.. hehe.... Too stress, too much expectations, sometimes too slack can led to under performance.

While it's a competition, treat it like a normal climb. What's your own standard you should know very well, don't get too stress that will cause you to fumble at your route. And don't be too slack! haha...coz still, it's afterall a competition. What's more, it's boulderactive - proudly organised by NUS.

I have confidence in all of you to win as much glory as we did last year & the many years before. Most important, enjoy the event, enjoy your climbs. enjoy just hanging around PS... enjoy shifting the heavy mattress that we have in the gym.. JUST enjoy BOULDERACTIVE!... =)

Sunday, March 4

For non-nus climbing team blog visitors. Presenting the team of 06/07!

Unfortunately Van and Kum couldnt join us for the photo (sorrie dude, couldnt photoshop in). Our dear team ladies are featured next (note the worrying number wearing FBT).

Next up the "hansom" men of Team NUS Climbing.

And... the finale... the "spirits" that haunt our gym... gotta ward them off... maybe they are the cause of the injury spats...
