More Yangshuo??

You've heard of photo-whoring, that's what a lot of us climbers are. Team Yangshuo has brought us to a new level: blog-whoring! I think Alvin and Junwei got the same request as me, to blog for them and JS said more better. As mentioned by alv, and confirmed by JS, China can only view blogs, cannot post, not even his Wordpress blog.

Team Yangshuo + European climber who multipitched with JS on their 小绵羊

Nice scenery at Yangshuo...

With updates from China and Europe, how I wish I were overseas too, but here I am STUCK in the lab, with not much of a life. I wonder how those PhD students can take it....perhaps this is where the Permanent Head Damage thingy came about. You must have that in order to stand this kinda lifelessness. "Congrats! You survived this kind of no-life, you are certified to have permanent head damage. Here's your PhD." Just for fun - no ill intended. =)

Back to climbing: JS mentioned that the routes at Yangshuo are much harder to the equivalent grade at Krabi and I believe that to be true cos most of Krabi grades are pretty soft (as compared to Malaysia). Liu Li flashed a 7A in Yangshuo, Alvin and Weimin bouldering V7-V9 and Font 7b in Europe and my friend Yijin just finished Baby Gorillas in Krabi. I'm really itching for my Krabi trip in July. I wanna chase grades!!

Cross-Borders

TeamNUS climbers have been going everywhere sia... UK, France, Germany, Malaysia, Thailand, China... I heard it's Greece next for some fellas. Truly taking the sport beyond borders.

E-N-V-Y. So where's my Team Yosemite??? Heh

Now, can you identify the NUS climbers in Team Yangshuo?

yangshuo and frankenjura update

I saw Jiasheng on MSN and was talking to him. Team Yangshuo humbly and respectfully begged me to help them blog about their accomplishments and so i shall..(i think cos china cannot use blogger WAHAHHA)

Jiasheng says: that he has climbed a 120m multipitch route with an european climber. The rest will do it soon. (alvin: Whoa!)
Liu li says: he has flashed 7A and will kick my ass in krabi (alvin:knnccb!)

They have been riding motorbikes to their climbing areas cos some are more than 10km away..without helmets! (alvin:tsk tsk) Jss also says that routes there are graded harder than krabi..

Back to Me and weimin, we were butt raped in frankenjura. The bolts are damn far apart, made our balls shrivel and drop. Worse is that the first bolt is sometimes super high up, it's like 5m high sometimes?

Then they go by uiaa grade from 1-10; doing a 6C equivalent(UIAA 7), we can take many tries and I even took a 3 bolt length lead fall!! that's really far considering the distance of bolts apart.(felt like screaming as i fell teehee') Cruxes of small pockets and crimps exist for the low grades of 6b even, it's disturbing.

We were out of our league cos many crags near our campsite only offered routes of 7C or harder.. :'( Enough excuses, me and weimin will be kicked by liu li in krabi. wheeee

It was a humbling experience climbing in frankenjura, but still a very fun trip exploring the countryside, long walks and treks, eating sausage, pork shoulder and all sorts of delicious German food. Wine is cheap and beer is cheaper than water at 25c for 0.5litres!!

PS: wilson is still strong despite hardly climbing! Lots of endurance and lots of determination just like b4..

cya soon!

nostalgia

is a good and bad thing.
it makes you happy thinking about happy times.
it makes you sad knowing that these become memories.
nevertheless. i miss climbing alot alot alot!!! esp. natural climbing.
and looking at pictures of all the climbing trips i had made me want to post them up! (and makes me want to start training again haha)
all i can say is cherish the school days, cos nothing beats being a student and climbing and living the carefree life!~
its been sooooo long since i posted here! so just some old pics of kl and tampin trip for entertainment purposes. hee.
alvin and i will try to update once im in munich! hopefully can find good places to climb there! =)

Climbers can be very easily contented. give us the simplest of xmas presents and we're as happy as little kids already.
(Christmas gift exchange in KL)

Climbers also like camera whoring. and posing in scenic locations.
(okay the background looks abit fake, but this is one of my favourite tampin pictures! makes us look like we're in hobbit land with all the fake looking boulders behind. aye but they're real ok)

Climbing girls like to pose with the flowers and the birds and the beeeeees.
but of course in front of huge boulders

and the one trait that all climbing boys possess.

is the ability to sleep anywhere.

thats y im entertaining you all with silly pictures.

and to end off this silly post.

Pumpfest 2007 Pics

Just thought I put up some collages from Pumpfest 2007. You can view the entire lot of them here. I will burn a dvd and pass it around, starting with Jups :)

These were some people i found around the climbing area ...

There were some things lying around and some people were trying to scale up some walls. Once they were up, they were jumping back down: if you waste this much effort to go up, why not continue over?!?!

And why the silly smiles on these people's faces?!

Post Pumpfest.....

Hey Team, hope you guys and girls are recovering well from the sun burn and what not...

CONGRATS to all prize winners and finalists!

to the rest of the team, continue to work hard and train safe and smart.

Pumpfest 2007 kind of sums up this semester competition season. Think our team's results for this string of 3 back to back competition have been very impressive. and I believe everyone is eager to train even harder after reviewing their own performances in this competition.

However, perhaps we need to take a time off to look back on the routes that we did not manage to clear and find out what went wrong and what should have been done. Don't just train and train and train. Find out what are your weakness first. (this mainly applies to novice and intermediate climbers) open cat climbers like Zhengxin (who don't need luck =), Kesheng ( who thinks he is weak) and Ningfeng shouldn't have a problem right?

Maybe its not the technique and strength. It could have been your nervousness during comp. Right?

So do take a bit of time to think through alrite? =)

As pointed out by Ningfeng, expect new and exciting changes to the team training in this coming academic year! Stay tuned ppl!

Meanwhile, rest well and climb safe!
