my usual reply would be to smile and look away.
but deep down inside an instant rebuttal would rush up to my mouth and then die away. but i cant take it anymore i must say it here. 'then why don't you tell usain bolt to stop running all the time? why don't you tell michael phelps that swimming in the pool the whole day is boring? why don't you tell lance armstrong to stop winning tour de frances? why don't you tell mozart that sitting the whole day in front of the piano is boring? why dont you tell socrates to not philosophize about the world all the time?'..
i would like to tell that person that climbing IS my life but i always prefer to avoid conflict.
great people that are remembered by history spent their entire lives in the single-minded pursuit of their goals. to that friend whom i would never tell in person i would tell here: you can be good but you cannot be great.
