Video of my fav route!

Hello! Here's a video of Le Toit du Cul de Chien 7A (6C+)

It's a famous roof problem supposed to be one of the most representative of it's time in terms of difficulty and boldness. It gives climbing of 3 angles, the start, vertical, the crux, a horizontal roof; and the finish, back to the vertical.

It's not too hard, just got to make sure not to cut loose on the right hand pocket under the roof. Otherwise, you spin 360 degrees and get a 10/10 landing, woohoo! I really enjoyed this route cos of the number of people trying it with you (all the crashpads stack so high until safer than in the gym) and also it's gym like moves - big holds and slightly reachy. Also I didnt expect to finish it that day cos I was so tired so it felt really good to top!

The video is not too good, cos the sun was setting in our face..

Weimin's attempt:

Watching my videos i realised that my footwork sucks. My trailing leg is generally useless, not smearing properly and also i get kancheong after the crux when I am about to top out and often screw up then. Shits@!

What makes a good climber?

I asked myself this while i was showering.

ethics?
passion?
determination?
heart?
humility?
willingness to share?
knowledge?

of course, i don't think how strong you are applies here.
what do you think?

My stand

With so many comments bout the sad post made by Mei Fen who's graduating,

-lost world of tambun-

hey geckos~

Well as some of you might have known, i just returned from a climbing trip at ipoh last weekend. The newly-bolted crag is situated in the compound of a theme park, Lost World of Tambun: Sunway City Ipoh. I don't tink many know of the place coz we were the only people entering the theme park loaded with climbing gear and big bags, unlike most of the other visitors with their picnic baskets and floats =P

entance of Sunway City Ipoh~!

we have the meow meows to welcome our arrival

... some not so friendly monkeys as well

on our way to the crag, we met some smooching tigers (and an approching one waiting to be smooched) in the mini zoo corner

alas, the gate to our little playground~!

the "needle": one of the most photogenic limestone structures in the area

climbing the 35m "Latrine" (6b+) on the "needle". spot the climber~

Last DaY of SchoOL... ever?

*gaspsss...* last tutorial > last presentation > last project > last lecture.. *screams* no more school?! wow.. ok i admit, i don't really like school bcos of exams, but the learning process can be pretty interesting bcos of interesting ppl and lecturers (if there are).

the flexible timings of classes, depending on whether u wanna attend lectures and tutorials; the breaks in between classes when u can catch up w frenz, bitch about the latest trends and updates on ppl; personal time to catch up on work; nap in the comfort of my hall and have yummy supper with 30+ ppl who personally cooked for the block (2 yrs back); climb in the gym with the rest who wanna look at tiles and routes on the rock wall instead of looking at words and essays on paper; go to school after morning peak hour and reach home before evening peak hour starts; go shopping without the hassle of squeezing with people on weekends.. WoOhOo~ NOT! all this is now in the past.. UGH!

absolutely impossible, unbelievable. today shall perhaps be the last time i'll be sitting in AS7 of NUS' FASS comp lab typing something with the rest of the undergraduates who are now busy rushing to complete their projects. jeez.. LaSt DaY.. EvER!? sadness.. but HaPpiNEsS for all the new uni frenz i've made here and the wonderful new found passion of climbing with the zaniest and sweetest ppl i've ever known.

THX PPL! was GREAT knowing u guys! see u soon!

what is love?

some lame jokes over here...

it would be cool if all of us could do it too!!!

I was watching star movies today, and I thought I saw an uncanny similarity between one of our climbers and a certain hongkong actor. is it just me or.....

parlez vous anglais??

fontainebleau has been bliss so far.

We have successfully hitchhiked on every occassion we tried.

We have met and climbed with tonnes of friendly belgiums, Germans, English and French. We even joined the Oxford Brookes Climbing Club for a week of climbing while they were here and they ferried us everywhere in their minibus ..such supremely nice people

We managed to climb at quite a few different areas. [ Its different from krabi.. here the climbing sites can be 10km or more apart]

We were whipped by 4As and 5bs the first day but slowly learned how to climb here. Weimin has completed 4 7As, even flashing one of them. I have done 3 7As and a 7B+ [so powerful and intense that route was].

We have learnt to live like wild men even before the birth of fire [no stove, everyday eat bread with cheese, butter and canned food].

We got our guidebook signed by Jo montacheusse, the author of the guidebook and one of the pioneers of Fontainebleau. He is 80yrs old and he demoed to us a 7A+ without warmup. respect.

We saw Neil Gresham carrying out a masterclass for 4 students. Such a strong but humble and friendly fellow

I could really stay here for ever and ever but in 4 more days, the trip must end and the next leg to south france, spain and portugal must carry on. I will say that this is my most enjoyable climbing trip ever and i reccomend that every climber saves some money and make a pilgrimage here one day. Routes of every grade for everybody.

au voir!!
