From KL And Into 2006

Hey guys,

my turn to put up something on the blog. I haven't got any photos from the KL trip so I'll just wait to rip them off KS... hahaha

Anyway, I only managed to stay for the climbs at Batu Caves and Camp 5 -- couldn't stay for the Tampin bouldering experience. Nevertheless, we're not short for interesting stories and excellent climbs for those 5 days. Lemme see if I can put some of them down here:

First thing that comes to mind is Liying, her expanding-meatball-of-a-hand and her belief in the "narrow car". She made like a chipmunk on ecstasy and kept us all awake on the 4 hour drive up to KL. No one was spared. In tribute to her quirkiness, I've decided to knight her "Sir Ball-ball", especially fitting since she is also in teaMAN.

Second thing that comes to mind is the glorious food in KL. Oh well, it's all we had by the end of the day, but it was still pretty darned good. I remember feasting nightly after climbing all day and staggering back to the lodge with full bellies, weary eyes and satisfied looks. Undeniably, Kesheng revealed his amazing apetitte through his numerous snacks after our heavy dinners, ranging from devouring Ramly burgers to satay to cheng t'ng to deserts like longan-sea-coconut. Not to be outdone, I trailed behind his food hunts, followed closely by Sir Ball-ball. Together, our foodship bound us true to our calling and we emerged, united and with a new name: Monsters Inc. (which remains till this day, even though Sir Ball-ball is no longer puffy).

Third on my list of things I remember is the lodge. It's comfy, cozy and best of all, cheap! The lodge was near to our favourite eating places (considering that there was Food Alley and then there was fast food), 7-eleven and the main roads / highways. All in, our stay was really convenient because everything was within reach. Speaking of roads and highways, it's little wonder that we got lost twice while looking for Batu Caves. The 2005/6 street directory wasn't much help because of the numerous changes the roads had on-the-ground.

Fourth would be the overall climbing experience. I loved this trip for the amount of good climbing we actually got to do. There was plenty of time for both proper climbing and fun too. Nyamuk had a good variety of routes, ranging from easy to intermediate and some hard routes too. I guess we could have used an extra set of equipment so that we could all do more climbing with a little less waiting time in between. Still, the natural walls provided us with a good selection of routes and some good wall experiences. Camp 5, on the other hand, was amazing. It's little wonder it's the best climbing gym this side of the planet. The routes are well-set, the atmosphere is energetic yet comfortable, and the staff are all friendly. Not to mention the fact that one of M'sia's biggest shopping centres is right next to it. I sure won't mind another trip up there. I'm already building up a shopping list.

There's more things that I noticed... But that's for another purpose another time. Heh. Won't you pen your thoughts down too?
