Happy national day to our Malaysians

i like this part:
"When Malaysians come together and act as one people success is theirs for the taking. When they are divided failure beckons.

If modern Malaysia's leaders remind themselves that unity does not come through threat, discrimination and coercion but through equality and mutual respect they may yet lay the foundations for a glorious 100th birthday"

Men and Women

I just read an excellent article on the New York Times. Its subject is the discrepancy between the performance of male and female athletes. This article is about running but i think its conclusions are applicable to climbing too. So for your time saving convinence let me summarise it.

Gina Kolata (the author) noted that while the results of men's races correlate with the age, i.e. younger men perform better and kick all the old bastards asses - just ask nf, women's results do not . The correlation breaks down. In one race the fastest woman was 37, and the top female in the 50 -54 group, beat those of the 20-24, 25-29 and 40-44 groups. I think we can all agree that fitness does not peak the middle age in women but not men, so there must be something else to explain this.

The opinion of the author, as well as several others is that women are inhibited psychologically due to social pressure, upbringing, etc. They have been inadvertently conditioned to have less belief in their athletic abilities, should not be as competitive and are inherently weaker compared to males. This could explain why older women can run as fast as or often faster than the younger. They have discovered what they are capable of.

I'm sure you have heard this in the gym. A request to make the route easier for girls. The justification for the request here is quite revealing in my opinion. It assumes that girls are naturally weaker. And i don't mean weaker only in the physical sense. I am trying to argue that this is not true! Beth Rodden FA The Optimists 8c+, our best dude Christer, Jai Dum 8b.

So in conclusion, please consider my humble request dear friends, unleash your inner beast*.

*For more info on unleashing your inner beast please consult John and yours truly.

Ps. I mean no disrespect to the efforts of our girls team.

Cold water treatment

Recently Pengyang posted this link to Dave Macleod's website where he talked about Cold water treatment for injured finger tendons.

I'm sure everyone has been wondering if it works. Well, it sure has worked for me..I've been doing quite a bit of fingerboard recently and although my fingers are not injured, I still do cold water treatment regularly and find that it keeps my fingers very healthy, aids recovery and keeps me on the wall more days a week.

Try it out! :)

team krabi is home

Hi guys!!

It was a magnificent trip to krabi. Some of us climbed hard and some of us sun-tanned hard but i'm sure all of us had fun. Many stories to tell in the days ahead of how christer completed every grade from 6A-8B and how zhengxin completed more than 30 routes! (everygrade from 6A - 7C+). I have much less noteworthy achievements but still feel very satisfied at my improvements in footwork, technique and mental strength thanks to observing both of them.

The beauty of certain routes leaves me smiling at their memory... the best of physical poetry. I miss the perfection of the place :( ..the beach, sea, night breeze, sunsets, and endless sky. Can't wait for the next trip to who knows where!

here's some of us doing deep water solo.

Holidays over for good and for now, it's school and time to train hard once more!

Updates from me

While we lavish in the boredom of being stuck in a rut as some people go climbing with the sea on their back, here are some updates from me.

Matriculation Fair 2007

Fighting girls 3

Matriculation Fair was carried out successfully. All I got was photos of girls in kendo suits sparring as I was too focused on doing a good job recruiting people into climbing. I would had uploaded more kendo girls pictures but this is after all a climbing blog. There were many excited young-lings but at the end of the day, all I want is to be in the arms of an older lady. Note that this is just my viewpoint, I bet others enjoyed themselves silly as they took so little effort to jio people to sign up siah (where is my myojo!). But as always, we can look forward to an exciting year.

Drink Fest 24th July 2007

'I ess drunk only after a whiskey shot kurara.'

There were drinks kindly brought over by Liu Li, Caleb and Ke Sheng. KS also kindly bought chickens (the edible one yum..) and they feasted on them. ZX, the guy above, got tipsy and he fooled around with anything he can see. Luckily most of the victims were understanding and didn't flame us back sob. Anyway this marks an auspicious beginning of another semester of climbing with idiots like above haha.

The Weather

It was rainy a week ago but now, it is mostly cloudy with absolutely no hints of rain. For those who love rainy weather, try going to England where sunny days rarely last for two consecutive days during this period. However, the temperature is not so warm compared to the Jun-July period and this makes life more bearable. I would prefer rainy weathers as I am not in Krabi so I cant be arsed to wish for sunny weathers hmph.

One more week till school reopens!
